ドトコイ is a simple love adventure game where players read text and make choices to progress. Despite the low resolution, the graphics gradually change as the favorability rating increases, eventually becoming proper illustrations.
The game features 11 captureable characters and has a low difficulty level, with each character's route taking approximatelyminutes to complete.
In the story, the protagonist, a second-year high school student, starts a new semester at a transfer school. While happily exploring the new route to school, they accidentally collide with a talking object in the shape of a ■. It turns out that the protagonist has been cursed with "low-resolution handsome men."
